hey guys, I'm a new Vista user...Home Premium came on my 5920G and for the most parts, I have no complaints, except UAC keeps turning itself back on!

I've turned it off via the Users console and via the tool in msconfig, no success. after about 3 or 4 reboots of my system, it reactivates itself somehow.

I went to try a registry edit, but one of the folders (currentversion) is NOT there under local_machine>software>windows>currentversion???

sooo, now I'm hoping someone here knows what to do?

User User Account>>Turn User Account Control on or off>>UAC>>Uncheck UAC box and reboot.

Then, Control Panel>>Security Center>>on the left hand side "Change the way Security Center alerts me">>I recommend the don't alert and no icon to help you from accidentally turning the UAC back on.

been there, done that Ranger, believe me, I've tried it all...well, obviously not, as it's not fixed. a friend just told me it may be Windows Defender's fault...just deactivated it, so now we will see. ;)

Windows defender is fail. It's probably the cause and it barely does anything anyway. Tell us if it worked.

Don't think it's Windows Defender, as i was having the same exact problem with my previous Vista install, and i had turned Windows Defender off from the start. I even posted my problem here and on another forum with everyone assuring me that that just can't be.

Then i messed up my Vista partition and had to reinstall. That was months ago, and my UAC has stayed off ever since.

you're right Estlander, Windows Defender had nothing to do with it as 4 restarts later, UAC has reactivated itself.

I've tried to go into the Local Security Policy to edit it out, but alas, in Administrative Tools, there is no Local Security Policy listed, to edit.

on top of that, not sure if I mentioned it previously, I can't do a registry edit either, as when I go to HKEY_Local_Machine>>Software>>Microsoft>>CurrentVersion...there is no CurrentVersion listed under Microsoft, so I cannot do the registry edit to nuke UAC.
