    hi guys.
i have just ordered a newlaptop with vista premium, iwant to use it for making videos with my hdd camcorder , it came with an operating disc from cyberlink which states that it requires xp to run.
is it still going to run on my new vista machine ,or do i need to beg the retailer to swap it for an xp version ( think it could be to late for that though).

if not can i get round it some how ?

also can a vista machine play old games like command and conquer red alert
.if it says xp in the requirements section is that all the game will work on.

thanks for looking please help. i am thinking that i just wasted my money on a machine i cant use :-(

Don't panic. If the games came out b/4 Vista of course they won't mention Vista. With the camcorder the MFG is your best source. I'm sure your not the 1st they may have the answer. Sorry I can't answer more but don't know any specifics about your hardware or software.

most xp software will run on vista, and any major company with a current product will have a driver to make it work on vista.

If it doesnt then its probably old and not something they give support on anymore.

Also chances are you can just plug it into vista and it will work fine as plug and play. The software for editing and viewing (cyberlink is just viewing I think) can be done by alot of programs.

thanks for responses, having read a lot of reviews about vistas performance and slowing down computer, etc . idecided that i needed max speed for my video editing , so i contacted the retailer who was happy to supply the same machine but with xp media.
so rightly or wrongly i switched to the xp version. i'm not worried about playing the latest games the old ones are fine for me.
so its a done deal hopefully arriving saturday.

    thanks again

I find a great deal of encoding and things of that nature are faster on vista, so far only game performance seems slower, and thats only by a small amount
