although i always put machine on shut down before i close the lid..hibernation always took longer time than the starting the comp..

just noticed these mac, when they r open back from sleep/hibernation mode..they take like less than a minute to respond n start working.

any way to reduce the hibernation waking up time..??

Make sure the hibernation file (hiberfil.sys in the root directory) is continuous and not fragmented to hell. Other than that there's really not much you can do, you may be the victim of misbehaving drivers or a crappy ACPI implementation in your BIOS.

If you're comparing it to a Mac, you're out of luck. OSX has a very optimized, speedy hibernation function. I don't think there's a way to emulate that with Windows.

Same with me. It takes longer for hibernation to start than it to do a cold start.

You could use Sleep instead of Hibernate.

I take it you're running either Vista or 7?

Hibernation is one of those things that worked great in XP, got broken in Vista and didn't get fixed in 7. This graph ( from the Windows 7 team blog) says a lot about how crappy hibernation is nowadays:

Notice how resuming from hibernation is only 1 second faster than booting up. Frankly I'm surprised Microsoft wasn't too embarrassed to release such unflattering data.

Wow, that graph really says a lot about hibernation and why most people should just use Sleep instead.

Sleep is the way to go.

Hibernation is great if you have to swap out batteries. Otherwise, WTH are you doing shutting down and booting up your computer all the time.
