you can put 2 DIMMs in any notebook regaurdless of whether or not it is single core or dual core. You need a 64 bit operating system in order for your system to use a full 4gb of ram.

take out the processor. throw it at a wall. if it breaks into two equally sized halves, then it is 2 core. if it stays in tact, then it is a single core.

Not every notebook has two RAM slots, for an example the Sony TZ series has only one.

christianbran, tell us what kind of computer you have and we'll let you know the maximum amount of RAM it can take, and what to buy.

it should have two RAM slots on the bottom

Having a dual core processor has nothing to do with being able to put more RAM into your laptop

but if your curious, if your processor is the AMD Turion X2, then the X2 would denote dual core.

Why not just check the task manager?
Right click your system tray, select task manager (or Ctrl+Alt+Delete>>Task Manager)

Then, go to the Performance tab.
See how many graphs for cores there are.

EDIT: This is how you can check for cores, but it won't matter for adding RAM.
