Is there any compelling reason for doing this changing of the SID?

if it ain't broke, don't fix it........ Or you will break it.

Why don't you like that particular set of 'letters and numbers'?

A new SID wouldn't hide a stolen computer, or stop your computer from being traced by any law enforcement due to illegal activity.

Reloading your OS or running Sysprep will change your SID. I don't know why you would want to do this though.

the only reason i seen for this is for hacking a software that ties a key to a specific SID

Sorry, been away from this thread for awhile. Sysprep will change it automatically, if you haven't already figured that out. You cannot customize it to my knowledge.
