how do I install windows 7?

I have windows vista 64 bit on a laptop. I've obtained an official windows 7 copy, and I want to install it on my laptop. However, I only have it as an ISO. After backing up my data, how do I do a clean installation using an ISO? Is it possible to load it onto a external HDD and then install from there?

Also, what do I do about drivers? Can I use the same drivers that I use in vista64? Do I have to manually install all the drivers or will installing windows 7 install it for me?

Anything else I have to do after a clean installation?

The ISO must be burned onto a blank DVD media disc (using an ISO burner such as UltraISO). This will allow you to boot off of the disc and then you can select to either do a clean installation or an upgrade.

You can extract the contents of the ISO to the root of your external disk and try to boot off of it. It might work, I've installed from USB key after doing a few prep things to it with diskpart (make it active, primary partition, etc) and then copying the ISO contents to it.
