Well,
001,002... or a,b,c... is just 1 part of the original File ! I have no ideas in how you can play the 001 part
As normal, you have to use the HJSplit to split or join files! In this case, you use it to joint file !
You can download it here
http://hjsplit.en.softonic.com/
But the HJSplit can only join 001,002 ! I suggest you to use FFSJ http://www.jaist.ac.jp/~hoangle/filesj/ this program can Split and join either a,b,c or 001,002,003
Cheers -
That's a split file. Used to reduce the size and ship it in parts.
You need to combine the pieces back into the original. -
Without joining (which would be better of course), couldn't you just rename them and move the 002 to the left of avi?

EDIT: Just in case anyone's super-bored, a description of the .avi file format can be had from Microsoft's MSDN website here. That description indicates that there is a mandatory first data element (as well as the file headers) that would not have been included in the pieces 002-004 that the OP has, which would mean that those pieces could not be played separately. -
Looks like the video is spitted in to several parts. If you can play the first file, that means it is not compressed. Therefore joining everything together should work. Use the following dos command to join:
copy file1name.001.avi+file2name.002.avi+file3name.003.avi+file4name.004.avi some_file_name.avi -
look its really simple this is the only way i know of to play it.
Convert each file you have, avi.001, avi.002, etc, to WMV. Ive only tried it with WMV but it may work with AVI. Use any converter, but the one i choose is simple and completely virus-free. It only takes up about 20mb or so. Download it here its called youtube downloader:
http://youtubedownload.altervista.org/
hope this helps you good luck! -
Try putting all four in a folder with nothing else in it, and right click on the .001 file.
Then use WinRar/7-zip and using the right click context menu, extract the first one. There's quite a chance that they'll join up -
.001 files can be "unzipped" by winrar, I believe.

As the OP said in his first post, he can play the first (.001) file, which means it is not a part of a archived file sequence like zip or rar. Therefore a simple join should work.
BTW this post is almost a month old and thread starter has not commented since, meaning either he found a way to do it, or not interested anymore.
how do i play video files that end with *.avi.001
