either the snipping tool in vista or ctrl+prtsc, which will save to clip board so you just need to paste it into paint.
-
the print screen button will copy it to clipboard and you can then paste into your favorite image editor. (i usually use mspaint for quickness)

Alt + Prt Scn
If you want to select an individual window rather than screenshoting the entire desktop. -
i know what alt and ctrl is but thats it
-
printscreen button is on the top on the right of the F1-12 keys...
-
There's a key on your keyboard labeled "Prt Sc". It's by the "Any" key.
-
wheres the clip board?
-
So push and hold the Alt key and while you're holding it down, push the PrtSc key. Next, open Paint, (Start button, then Programs, then Accessories, then Paint.) On the Edit menu, click Paste. Voila - there's your window. -
the paint is not letting me paste
-
clipboard just means it is saved and can be copied... any appropriate place you try to paste it will put it right there... so if you save an image to the clipboard.... everytime you press ctrl v on a image program itll paste it... put not in a text file... following hooper1's instructions should help you get a screenshot...

If it's not pasting, then you didn't copy it. Make sure you hold down both keys (if you're doing Alt + Prt Scn for example).

Do you have Vista, because the snipping tool is really great.
Either...
Open start menu and start typing "snipping tool" and it will show up
-or-
Start>All Programs>Accessories>Snipping Tool -
