can anyone recommend it and explain the memory usage related to the program?
also is there real-time protection, and options to turn options off?

Spyware Doctor is really good, but some free alternatives are Spyware Terminator, Ad-Aware, Spybot, and AVG Anti-Spyware.
-
I find that Spyware Doctor is thorough and pretty quick, but for me it takes a while to load and it just hogs resources.
I would recommended Webroot SpySweeper, supposed to be best of the year -
Many users and web sites says that Spyware Doctor is the best antispyware software.Memory usage isn't too big if you have 512MB or higher.
Free alternatives are Spyware Terminator(I'm using it and it is great) or Ad-Aware Personal, but it has no real time protection in Personal version, which is big defect. -
PM me if you want it for $19.99
No catch. It is just a -$10 saving on $29.99 price because I had a 3 month trial of it, but I don't really care to extend it. No idea if this is a good price or whatever, so... I presume it is for a full 1 year licence
BTW note due to time differences I may take a while to get back to you -
is there an option to reduce the memory usage? and what is running that will contribute to the memory usage?
-
i like spyware doctor. i think its the best antispyware.
-
Last bump for the price
-
uh why would i pay you when i can bootleg it
-
Wouldn't it be ironic if you catch a virus from your bootleg antivirus (or antispyware...whatever).
-
That happened to me a long time ago. Not fun. -_-
Though I'm a lot more careful now. -
No one is paying me. All I do is give you the link through to the website of the maker's with the $19.99 price. Its kinda inferred that is what it is. What do you think I mean when I talk about having a trial of the software and then being offered a discount?
And frankly why do I or anyone care if you bootleg software? If you're clever enough to google, what is the point of this thread? And yes, it is inferred you're asking before you buy. But then again, maybe not the 'buy' bit! -
Spyware Doctor is not bad. Compared to other paid products like Sunbelt Counterspy or Webroot SpySweeper, many would say it's worse, but spyware testing in general is usually somewhat biased and inconclusive anyway. I would rather use free products like Spyware Terminator or SUPERantispyware than pay for Spyware Doctor.
-
i would like to say if your going to download Spyware Doctor, the trial version, you should go with the download available at Google- it offers much more options than the crippled version at download.com
Google's Spyware Doctor is one of the best real time anti spywares out there -
My conclusion is that I don't like it enough to purchase.
My main complain is that it takes more than 90% of processor resources
for around a minute after the system has booted, so you can not do anything but waite (well my system is 1.1GHz ULV Pentium M and 1,8" 4200rpm HDD, so the average time would be smaller for most of you).
Concerning the memory usage, it varries. Right now the Process Explorer shows me that swdsvc.exe process of SD takes 143MB of memory.
However, it is after 8 hours of on-line work. Usually it stays on the level of 30MB with me.
My favourite antispyware tools so far are Advances Spyware Remover free, a-squared free and Spybot together with comodo firewall. However, I still don't feel save enough with them and looking for an ultimate solution.
Concerning the well known Ad Aware, I do use its scan regularly, but it turns to become increasingly blind eyed to many kinds of dangerous spyware other tools detect. So, just beware, it is not a solution of all problems.
how is Spyware Doctor?
