curious on knowing how much hard disk space is you guy's windows vista taking up.

    my setup:
    - windows vista ultimate
    - 1000MB virtual memory allocated
    - 1.7GB in the program files folder (installed programs)
    - ALL my personal files such as downloaded stuffs, music, audio files are on another drive (partition).
    - hard disk clean up tool done cleaning of all unecessary files

all this still results me taking up 25GB of space only for windows and my programs. Shouldn't windows vista only take around the lines of 15GB?? and the weird thing is that i find mine relatively high and seems to increase even though i didn't installed any new programs.

Yes, it's System Restore. What you need to do is clear your System Restore files (except the most recent one) and you will see a dramatic increase in available space. There is a way to reduce the amount of space it's allowed to use, but I don't remember it exactly. Gimme a couple minutes to dig it up...

its probably system restore... but if you go to add/remove programs and go under windows components there might be some other bloatware that youre not using...

About 2.5" as that is the physical dimensions of the hard drive.

What i'd like to know is how much hard disk space is Vista gonna take up after SP1. I mean, this thing takes hours to install in the first place.

My OS partition is using 17.1 GB, and that's with all my programs installed. Files are in a separate partition in case of a crash or virus.

if youre gonna be like that...you should at least be smart about it; i mean, last time i checked, we live in a 3D space...not 1D

9.2Gb is the size of the Windows folder, 2.3Gb in Program Files (Pre-Installed Windows Apps) and a 4Gb paging file.

So in total 15.5Gb. I disabled system restore because if something goes wrong I'd presonally rather format. :)

I have 26gb of 37gb used (only have a 40gb hard drive), about 16gb used just by Flight Simulator X! Using Vlite I got my Vista install to be smaller.

Vista is consuming about 13-14GB of space on my C drive, and I have 3.08GB of applications/programs on my other partition.

Usually additional space gets consumed due to Vista automatically creating system restore points, and also about 2GB from whenever your system hibernates.
