I have a laptop running Windows 7 64bit edition. Hooked up to it is a USB device called Musical Fidelity V-Link.
It's an audiophile device that converts sounds stream from USB to Coaxial so that it can be hooked up to DAC.
It shows as USB sound device under device manager. I just had to plug it to the laptop computer and it automatically
recognized as Musical Fidelity sound device. I didn't have to install any extra software at all.
I unplugged everything (TV, wireless receiver, etc...) and cleaned it a few days ago.
When I hooked up everything back to what it was, I noticed that what used to be shown as "Musical Fidelity Sound Device" is now
shown as "Musical Fidelity Sound Device - 2". Then I realized that I plugged the thing to the different USB port.
So I simply unplugged it, and plugged it back to the original USB port. it's now showing as "Musical Fidelity Sound Device", the same as before.
the problem solved, I thought.
Soon after, I noticed that the laptop, when playing WAV files that's saved to its HDD, it stutters badly. Since I didn't change anything and it's been
working flawlessly for over 2 years, it must have something to do with Windows messed up a bit - namely, by plugging it to the different USB port, and
creating this new entity called "MF Sound Device - 2"...
Is there any way I can eliminate both "MF Sound Device" and "MF Sound Device - 2" from USB profile so that I can clean-install my MF device from scratch?
thanks for reading this long post and any suggestion is appreciated. I think i may have a very simple problem but explaining the circumstance took a bit longer
than I would have liked...

If you go to devices and printers, in there an can you see the second device and is there an option if you right click it to remove the device?

The device # is just a registry entry if I recall correctly and it shouldn't in any way affect the operation of the device. Removing it is possible, but if I remember correctly, it isn't really easy. If you uninstall the driver, the device ID will still be there and in the vent that you plug it back in that port, it will still show as device-2. I doubt that it's your problem. Personally, I would go into the device manager, uninstall the device and then unplug/replug it to get the driver to install again.
how to completely remove the traces of USB sound device
