i am using mother board monitor for the first time, while configuring its asking for "select ur board and revision",all i want to know is what to select couz i dont know my board.
how to know which board i am having??
thanks...
-
in Device Manger or goto command prompt and type "systeminfo" or download Belarc Advisor
-
i tried the systeminfo in command prompt it shows up everything except the board i am using...
plz help..
thanks... -
You can download CPU-Z, and in the Mainboard Page, you will see the Name of the Manufacturer, and the Model Code-Name. (If there is any)
-
ok i downloaded the cpu-z
in the mainboard tab it says,
motherboard:
chipset-intel PM965
so i guess the board is intel pm965 am i correct??(may seem like a dumb question, can`t help) -
oh and i could`nt find PM965 under the intel selection in motherboard monitor.
-
it shows that the manufacturer is"wistron" and the model is"30CE".
and that one is not listed in the motherboard monitor. -
Wistron is an ODM in Taiwan. Notebook companies such as HP, only assemble the parts made be contractors such as Wistron, Compal, Inventec etc.
Motherboard Monitor (and SpeedFan) is a utility basically for desktop computers, and not for notebooks.
HWMonitor is a similar utility, but normally displays the temps of the CPU, GPU and the HDD, as the info related to voltage, fan rpm, etc are hard-coded into the ACPI and hidden from the end-user.
You can also try out Notebook Hardware Control. -
so is it that i can`t use motherboard monitor for my notebook?
-
If it isn't supported, then No....
-
so are there any other apps that does the same thing as motherboard monitor....
for notebooks... -
-
oh the HWmonitor works great...no need to install or do anything it configured itself and showing the results...
but...i can`t see the fan speed n voltages...
rep for u cheers... -
For viewing the memory voltages, you'll need Everest Ultimate (not trial), and to view the CPU voltage and undervolt, you can use RMClock.
Fan Control and Info, is hidden from the End-User. -
it would be great if u let me know the desirable min-max temperatures for cpu`s etc...
-
Intel C2Ds normally have a thermal specification of 105*C, whereas anything below 50*C (idle) and 80*C (load) is fine.
Same for the GPU. (8400M GS -> keep it under 70*C)
HDDs should be under 50*C always.
You can undervolt the CPU, to reduce the max power consumption, hence reduce temps and improve battery life. -
my HDD is at 58*c is it abnormal??
-
, well it is actually high. Not safe. HDDs have a max temp of 55*C or 60*C (stated in their datasheets).
Aah, I noticed it is an HP. HP is synonymous with high temp.
Check Resource Monitor for HDD activity.
Disable indexing, and if using Vista, assign a fixed pagefile size (same initial and max size), that will reduce HDD activity. -
Aah great cheers to my HP ;(....
ok i have some more question for you....i`m using vista home premium....how to disable indexing and assign a fixed pagefile size???? -
You can disable indexing, by Run > services.msc > disabled Windows Search, then reboot.
If all the files have already been indexed, then disabling it won't really help. If it doesn't reduce temps, re-enable it, as it is a useful feature.
Well, lets not mess with the pagefile for now.
Which HDD is it ? -
it says
WDC WD1600BEVS-60RST0
in my device manager... -
Well, that is not a good HDD w.r.t. power consumption and temperatures.
I don't really know how one can reduce the HDD temp by 8*C, but try running this diagnostic utility by WDC (Extended Test). If the test goes fine, then the heat is probably not affecting the HDD, or the thermal sensor is screwed up.
If you have Vista 32, you can download NHC, and in the HDD section, try looking for an option to Reduce AAM to minimum. That will reduce Access Time slightly, and will reduce power consumption by a small amount.
If you ever plan to upgrade the HDD, go for a Hitachi 5K320, or the Seagate 5400.5, as these two HDDs are very cool and quiet, and will be best for your HP.
(And if you had disabled indexing, and didn't notice any drop in temps, re-enable it)
EDIT: Also download HD-Tune, and in the Health Page, view the SMART data, to see if everything is OK.
