Please delete if this a double post. My browser died when I first posted this 10 min ago

Recently dodged a major bullet and wanted to make a post so future windows users will find a helpful guide if they meet the same problem.

short: remove sfsync02.sys from your windows 7 computer(@c:\windows\system32\drivers\) if unable to boot and stuck in starup repair loop. I recommend making a ubuntu live cd. Download | Ubuntu
*I am not hawking linux on anyone. There are probably many ways to gain access to an unbootable computer's hd but this happens to be the only method I know that is free and safe.

    long

Starforce is drm software that comes with some games and sometimes the drivers do not work in windows 7. This is what sfsync02.sys is. For me the game was GT legends.

After installing, my computer, with Windows 7 64 bit, would not startup and put me in an "automatic startup repair offline" loop.

    signature 6 autofailover
    signature 7 corruptfile

furthermore, i could not restore my computer to any earlier point

after clicking view error report the diagnosis reveals
    c:\windows\system32\drivers\sfsync02.sys is corrupt

make sure you confirm this is case before you delete anything. Also, making a backup may be a good idea but should be unnecessary if your error matches mine.

luckily, I was dual-booting ubuntu so I was able to delete that file from ubuntu. If you are not dualbooting another os, you can use an ubuntu live cd to do the same thing. Or you can probably find a third party software to access your harddrive.

once sfsync02.sys was deleted, my computer was good as new. Of course, you will probably won't be able to use any software that uses the starforce driver but I'd say thats much better than being unable to boot.

Hopes this helps someone out there
