    a strange question i know :p

    but i cnanot solve it on my own :(

    i got 2 hdd´s in my laptop (both 250gb and same speed).

    1.hdd = win7 + programms + music + pictures
    2.hdd = games + some backup stuff (like setups i will never find again)

    so where to put downloads(firefox,torrent,jdownloader,usenext) and videos ?

    more writing = faster death of hdd? So i thought it would be better to put downloads on the 2.hdd as it will only be used when i play a game while the 1.hdd is always in use? But then games,dvd´s and other big files would maybe have to be copyed back to the 1.hdd e.g. in the videos folder.

    haha i know its a rly strange question to ask where to put the folders and files :p

    thx bb

    While theoretically, more use of a harddive will wear it out faster, it does not equal a faster death. There have been only one substantial study on the durability of harddrives, which was done by Google. The only thing the found was neither higher temperatures, more use, standby time, or even the amount of power on cycles provided good correlations to the faster death of harddrives.

    Basically, your concern is insignificant in the overall scheme of things. I would suggest you do what's best for your situation regardless of the frequency of harddrive writes.

    I would suggest you keep everything important in two places -- ie,back it up

    I have a similar set up to yours, with two hard drives on my desktop.

    The main reason I added a second drive was, like you, to have windows on one drive, and resource hungry games/programs on the second. This way they wouldn't be competing over a single hard drives resources. In my opinion this helps games to load faster and play smoother. So I would stick with your initial set up. Put your downloads and videos on the drive with the most free space, unless you intend to watch movies whilst playing games ;D
