That's odd. My firefox starts up faster than IE. You might want to check the number of extensions that you're running. The more extensions you run, the slower firefox will start. You could also try reinstalling firefox.

I concur. There's also a new version out, so give that a try as well.

    You could use Firefox preloader:

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/

Will move APIs to your startup routine, so firefox starts up immediately. However, it is only recommended if you have a decent amount of RAM.

For a generalized import of Favorites, there is an option within Firefox to import IE favorites...

    Click on Bookmarks
    Click on Manage Bookmarks
    Follow the instructions.

If you're trying to bring up the bookmarks on the toolbar specifically, move bookmarks into "Bookmarks Toolbar Folder", which is the Firefox equivalent of the "Links" folder in IE.

Don't know. Give the import a try. If it doesn't move the Links to Toolbar transfer automatically, it's not hard to move a whole folder around. Welcome to Firefox. :)

    Click on View
    Click on Toolbars
    Click on Customize

Then move the address bar to wherever you want it... don't forget to move the "Go" button with it too. ;) Firefox is slick in this respect. You can do a high level of customization. Have fun!

You can also use the plug-in FasterFox.
And then you are screaming down the internet.

    My settings are:

    network.http.max-connections standard Integer 48
    network.http.max-connections-per-server standard Integer 24
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy standard Integer 16
    network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server standard Integer 8

    Just go to about:config
    and change the settings.

I believe firefox starts up slow for some people because its base is the Java Runtime Environment, so it must be loaded. That is what loads kinda slow. Try making the JRE load on startup, then FireFox should load as soon as you're done clicking.

    Give it a go :D

    Cheers,
    Mike

just turn off all plugins, clean your profile, and use the default theme. This may defeat most of firefox's features, but then again small size and speed isn't really firefox's strong points.

Size and speed aren't Firefox's strong points? I don't understand what you mean by this statement.

Firefox loads webpages faster than IE, also downloads files faster than IE, but that can be fixed by changing a registry entry for IE.

    Even still, Firefox is superior.

    Cheers,
    Mike
