pc came with windows vista. Just uninstalled it and put windows 7 professional on it. 32bit, the pc has 3gbs of ram but it says there is only 2.75 gbs available......? i thought 32bit was up to 3.25 from what i have seen. Anyway to fix this ????

install 64 bit OS. 32 bit uses only up to 2.75gb of ram
-
is that just for laptops lol. cause i have 4gbs in my desktop and it reads as 3.25gbs same goes for every computer i have ever owned pretty much and no matter what os. from what i have always heard read and expierenced 32bit = 3.25gb and 64 = above

Install 64bits if you have 32bits you can have 64bits.

i think ur miss understanding what im saying cause taking a picture of ur comp with 4 gb of ram doesn't mean, any thing win 32bit is supposed to support up to 3.25gbs..... considering my desktop has 3gb of ram atm and is showing 3gbs.... while a laptop on the exact same os with 3 gbs of ram is showing 2.75.... so that doesn't make any sence
desktop
laptop
Plus my freinds computer has 4gbs ram running 32bit, and it reads 3.25, so it doesnt make anysence that it reads 2.75 when i have more then 2 computers around me that read up to 3.25. -
There's two issues here:
A 32-bit computer has a 4 GB memory address space (2^32 = 4 billion). Everything that the computer accesses needs to be addressed, including RAM, video memory, network, etc. All of these items pull from addressing space, so the maximum amount of RAM on a system is technically 4 GB minus whatever else needs to be addressed. Therefore, the maximum RAM on a 32-bit system varies based on the system.
Now, there's also the case of graphics cards pulling shared memory from RAM. Anything that the GPU pulls will be unavailable to the rest of the system, and you get reported RAM available equal to the amount of RAM in the system minus whatever the GPU is pulling. -
^^yea i figured it was the gpu a little but ago thanks lithus, for being the first person to actually address the question
it seems that the gpu is stealing about 256mbs.
