    Hey everbody-
I just got a new computer with vista  and I am having a hard time getting wmp to play videos, when I try to open one, I get an error message saying "windows media player has stopped working"
then I tryed to burn some of the files to dvd so i could watch them that way, and I get the same "stopped working" message.
If anyone can shed some light on what to do here, I would really appreciate it. Thanks all!

try to open with VLC player, or download and install "K-lite codec" (just google it), so that you can open your video files using Windows Media player.

I must say that Windows' many different DVD functions is a jungle! And "Help and Support" doesn't very clearly describe their differences and when to use which. It's all very confusing.

What is the difference between burning movie files onto a DVD-R disc in Windows DVD Maker and in Windows Media Player? Is Windows DVD Maker better for MPG files and Windows Media Player better for WMV files? Or when do I choose which player?

I have had some success in using Windows DVD Maker.
But have not figured out how to burn DVDs in Windows Media Player yet. It doesn't seem able to add in edited movies from Windows Movie Maker.
