Ask the seller / maker / manufacturer from whom you are buying, if you can have one without an OS? or see in their website if they have options for a OS-less laptop?!?!!!!

Edit: Ooopppsss... Or did I just misunderstand there???? You mean 'ship it out' as in you wanna 'ship out' a laptop you are having right now???? like sell it to someone else? or similar??? >> If yes, reformat it!!!!!! Formatting (or wiping) the hard drive will take out the OS... It will wipe it clean.. and if u don't install anything after that, there will be no OS...

You can use a bit eraser. Darik's boot and nuke is easy to use, and pretty secure. It makes several passes on the HD and writes every block to 0, so that no data can be recovered.

You load the aforementioned programs onto a bootable CD/DVD, boot from that, then wipe the hard drive. Alternatively, take the drive out, put it into an external enclosure, hook it up to another computer, and format/wipe it from there.

Otherwise, just buy another hard drive, clean as a baby's bottom, and swap 'em out.

No... taking it ou and wiping it clean is a separate thing..

and AFAIK, you can wipe it clean when its hooked to the laptop using bootable OS CD' or like Gregory mentioned... which I think would be the simple, easy way... rather than taking it out, wiping it clean and then fixing it back into the laptop and phheewww...
