Anyone installed iTunes on Windows 7 yet? Is it effective and fast? And not SLOW like on Vista?

It seems like iTunes freezes almost EVERYTIME I open it up on Vista the first time around. Then I have to forcibly quit it using the Task Manager window and restart it.

Hopefully things change around in Windows 7. I don't know if I need to blame Apple or MS.

Seems to work well for me on a few units both old and new, but id blame apple as they keep putting alot of bloat in iTunes and quicktime causes problems with some codecs and videop players

Its a bit buggy in Win7, you can't add files to the library from the file menu or it crashes, but dragging and dropping works fine. As for speed, its a bit better then Vista. Don't know if its the same for the rest of you.

IMO (this is subjective of course), after using iTunes on a Mac and windows, I feel like it gives users of one platform a totally different experience. I love it on my Mac and absolutely hate it on Windows.

I have the latest version installed on 7 RC and it's slow as hell for me. I downloaded two full albums this afternoon and they took forever (after downloading each track it "processed the file" for what felt like eternity) and made my PC almost unusable during this process.

I haven't experienced any major bugs and it seems to work fine in 7 but quite frequently it just drains CPU power like no tomorrow, which almost feels like it's frozen.

This is definitely an Apple issue, not MSFT. FWIW, WMP in 7 works like a dream.

Yah.. I agree that WMP runs like a dream in windows 7. I can play 1080P blueray rips in WMP with my netbook while it has a hard time running itunes smoothly.

Itunes is AWFUL on Windows. The only reason I have it is because I have an iPhone.

Otherwise, I wouldn't have it at all.

Yeah, I hear that. I ditched my iPod for a Zune a year ago and ditched iTunes completely. Last month I broke down and bought an iPhone and had to load iTunes back up (on Vista). I love the iPhone, but I'd forgotten how much I hate iTunes.

I was hoping it'd run better on Windows 7, but it doesn't sound like it does. I've always secretly wondered whether Apple purposely makes iTunes on Windows run like crap in a sneaky effort to highlight how much "better" the mac platform is.

I never had much issues with Itunes. But then I only use it to sync my Ipod. It does run faster under Win7 though.

Same here. I've had no issues with iTunes in XP, Vista, or Win7. Like lixuelai, I only use it to sync my ipon music/podcasts and don't do anything with video. I also haven't used it on a Mac, so I can't compare to that platform.

It's not that I have issues with iTunes, it works fine, it's just slow. Especially when opening up.

I also hate having to battle iTunes for control over my music.

iTunes is slow and bloated (although I didn't install bonjour or some other crappy bloat in there), but I love the interface and convenience of a store right there to easily purchase music.

I don't know what Apple's problem is, but they throw a fit over anyone using their software or hardware in any manner not approved by them, and even then they make it difficult. Microsoft doesn't cripple windows on Macs and Office is great, but iTunes on windows...

iTunes works fine for me on my netbook. Yes, it is a little slow but that's not a huge thing for me. I actually like using iTunes and I probably would even if I didn't have an iPod or iPod Touch.

That's such BS. Office 2008 on Mac might be one of the reasons why iTunes may not be as good on Windows. Microsoft purposely cripples Office for Mac and Mac users PAY for Office. You don't pay anything to use iTunes on Windows. :p . Let's not forget how horrible MS Messenger is on Mac. It's interesting how Windows users can complain about iTunes when Mac users get a much worse experience from Microsoft's horrible Mac software. It's obvious MS does this purposely to maintain it's Windows base, FAIL.

Office on Mac is 10x better than iTunes is on PC. Hell, one of Apple's selling points is it can run office.

I can't speak about MS Messenger though...

Weird, on my Dell Studio 15 here on Vista 64 bit I find iTunes fast. Upon clicking it from "objectdock" it's loaded within about 10 seconds maximum.. With a library of over 3,000 songs. Never tried it on a Mac, but I did have Windows 7 64 bit beta (sorry, not sure which version) installed on my laptop for a long time until recently, and I found it to be no slower than Vista, however as for faster I could not tell you. Find it to be about the same on XP Pro Sp2 also (I dual-boot between Vista and XP).

Dono about most people but I find 5-10 seconds loading time not that bad.. Don't see how a Mac could load it any faster? Although having used a Mac a few times (and an old one at that) I found that apps tended to load faster.. Probably because they don't have to be installed to use the programs..
