I've installed the new iTunes 7.6 and Quicktime 7.4 and I seem to be having some severe issues when using it on my Vista Home Premium laptop. The one glaring issue is when I try and open iTunes it takes a long time, so long in fact that in doesn't fully load straight away and comes up in black, and sometimes doesn't load properly and I have to try and open it again. In addition iTunes generally seems sluggish and sometimes the iTunes Store takes a while to preview a song, load, search etc. Video previews are sluggish too. Anyone else experiencing these issues or have any ideas?

In what sense? Please find an example of one the issues I mentioned attached!

Oh, that always happens to me. Just click in iTunes and it should become white again. If not click a whole bunch in there and something will appear.
-
Oh right Crimson. I know, that's what I do but I was just wondering why it does it? Memory leaks?

No idea. Happens to me. Its can be annoying. I think its vista's problem. Since it never happens in XP
-
Well Apple need to sort it out and quick. It makes everything unstable, I do think it's to do with memory. iTunes seems to gulp a lot of it.

Well, yes, it does use alot of memory... but i dont know why it doesn't happen in XP
-
I can see Apple are trying to improve iTunes on Vista with the Aero style close, minimize etc buttons but it would be nice if they cut down on memory usage under Vista. Everything is really sluggish
-
-
What version you got?
-
im using the newest one i was just saying its not just this version i've had the problem its been previous versions as well. i dont even think about it i just click inside the black and itunes becomes regular again.
-
Do you think it's a bug or memory issues?
-
i've had the black problem a few times [vista home premium]
-
Ok check the attached picture, now this is what I call problems with iTunes
-
Definitely a Vista problem, and I got it with 7.5 as well. It only seems to happen when iTunes opens up in the background. I just minimize to the system tray and then open it up again - would love a fix, it's a little annoying. Memory usage with Cover Flow is also a problem.
-
I've had this problem for a while. To get rid of the black, just minimize it and then unminimize. Not much of a hassle :\
-
I would love for iTunes to be improved for Vista in every single way. The fact that we're a year in and the black window issue is still there is ridiculous. How about using less memory and better coding next update instead of just a stupid store update? Yay! I can rent movies now! Woohoo!
And yes. That is sarcasm. -
I'm really surprised that Apple haven't fixed these issues yet. They seem pretty rudimentary to me and I would think it's common sense to get these issues sorted out before adding new features.
-
I think it's actually the video driver, my laptop even lags with aero, and I have Quadro NVS M140.
-
Hmm maybe iTunes tries to do some stuff graphically when it loads and some graphics chips can't handle it.
-
It's not graphic can't handle it, it's a driver issue, meaning, when iTunes is already loaded, but the graphic is not being displayed, e.g. when you use cover flow, the process for the album art you were searching for is there, but the graphic is not generated.
What does iTunes use? OpenGL? -
No idea, I don't think it's OpenGL.
