Hey guys. So, I installed iTunes 9 on Windows 7. After the install, I notice several instances of conhost.exe in the taskmanager whenever I connect my iPod to my computer or run iTunes 9. Can anyone confirm this for me and could you please indicate how many instances you see?

From my own research, seems like iTunes 9 does not run elevated in any way. Thus, for iTunes 9 to access the Windows 7 library file structure and talk to the iPod via USB, it needs an intermediate. Technically, this would be done by calling upon the console (aka cmd for programs), but that would expose the rest of the system to the program and give an easy way to compromise the system. The idea behind conhost.exe is to only expose the necessary calls to the program. Thus, the program makes the request and conhost.exe executes it.

Again, I am curios to know how many conhost.exe instances there are when running iTunes 9 with the iPod connected, without the iPod connected, and no iTunes running with the iPod connected and without the iPod connected. Please indicate whether you are running x86 or x64.

    Thank you. :)

I just noticed this was not posted in the Windows 7 subforum. I thought I had clicked through, but I guess I didn't wait for the page load. Could a moderator please move this? Thanks!
