I have got a lot of songs on a external HD, and I want them to stay there, but be used by iTunes. I am downloading iTunes right now btw.

Easy, go into My computer, find the drive, open the drive, find the FOLDERS with the music, then select all of them, then drag them into the sidebar of iTunes that says "music", it should start then.

So, what's the question? iTunes won't move any files unless you tell it you want the files moved into the iTunes directory.

What he's saying is he want his music to be played on iTunes without going on his laptop harddrive. So he wants it played from his external harddrive.

Ok... Ill try this and see if it works (which it should, no?) and come back if it does not... Thanks

Jewperman, you don't have to drag any folders or do anything funky. If you have the external drive connected when you start iTunes, it will scan and find the files. It won't move any files. The iTunes library will have the locations of all of the files, even if you disconnect the drive.

That should work fine. Just add the songs in the iTunes library.

I decided to just put all the songs onto the Laptop HDD... Now I need to format it. I right click WD Passport bit in 'Computer' and click on format but in the option where it says 'Allocation Unit Size' what do I put? It says 4096 Bytes as default. Should I up it? It has a few options. What does it mean?

Choose the default.

Ok... well, tottaly new problem now lol... I formatted, but forgot to make it so music went to the External HD. So now I have a few songs on my Laptop HDD, and none on the External. I the whole iTunes file over to the External, so now I have two copies... What do I do...?

Change the preferences within iTunes to your external location.
