I use iTunes on Vista and I get quite poor performance. Any ideas on how to improve the speed at all. I've disabled indexing of XML files already but was wondering what else might speed it up a little. I think Apple need to get on with releasing iTunes 8 with a major overhaul.

Unless you have iTunes store media files, I suggest using a different media player.

iTunes is inherently slow. It's because the program runs off Quicktime, which is poorly ported from Mac (where it's part of the operating system).

iTunes seems to be pretty responsive for me. Although come Monday iTunes 8 will be around, so hopefully that will be a bit better coded and with native x64 support.

iTunes is the laggiest Program on my comp.. but also the most utlized.

They seriously need to work on its Core level architecture.

I wouldn't bother with iTunes if I don't use it to manage my iPod. Just opening the program is so slow.

Disable Radio, itunes store, videos, podcasts etc. if you only use it for music. If you disable these things the performance will be much better

Ahh yeah I wouldn't even bother with iTunes unless you have an ipod.

There are much better players than this for Windows.

If you have a mac then go ahead. It runs pretty smoothly ony my friends

If foobar supports iPod then that's what I would go with.

It is indeed fast. But like he mentioned its not as user friendly, but not bad.
