I know this is probably easy for some of you-but I am new to computers so bear with me. I downloaded itunes recently to my desktop and it has made a complete mess of things. There are 2 shortcuts, multiple folders and application extensions on my desktop. If I put all this stuff into my documents, itunes will not open and tells me to reinstall. As long as it is all on the desktop then it opens just fine. I know there is probably an easy solution for this-sorry Im so retarded but please help! I have a thinkpad t41, so its a windows machine if that makes a difference (probably does) thanks in advance

I would just uninstall it (make sure you music is backed up first if you have anything purchased from iTunes). Then reinstall it. Probably what happened is that it installed on your desktop instead of C:\Program Files.
When you are installing it, you should be able to choose the location of where it installs.
There are other ways, but to me that is probably the easiest. -
wow that was fast. Now I know this is dumb but how do I back up all my music and then re-import it into itunes?

Metamorphical Good computer user
Step 1. Make a playlist just for the songs you purchased from itunes. (Don't worry about MP3s already on your harddrive)
Step 2. Make sure you have blank CDs handy
Step 3. In Itunes burn that playlist to CD (If you are planning to do something drastic like reformat you would ofcourse back up the MP3s imported from your harddrive seperately. This saves alot of CD space)
Step 4. Save your playlists to disk (or jump drive. Back it up from the hard disk if needed) How to: File > Export Library > Select location where you want to save it > Click save. (This step is only useful if you have already set up all your playlists and don't want to set them up again when you reinstall Itunes)
Step 5. Uninstall Itunes
Step 6. Reinstall Itunes. Play intention to the installation process. Don't let it add anything you don't want including itunes.
Step 7. Import music from CD
Step 8. Import playlists. File > Import > Find the playlist file you saved > Click open
Step 9. Add music from hard drive. File > Add File to Library > Select File/Files you Wish to Click Add > Open , to add an entire folder of music File > Add Library > Select Folder you want to Add > Click Open.
Step 10. Enjoy your music. I think that covers it.
There may be an easier way to do it. But I don't know it. x.x;
Hope this helps. =) -
LOL, i forgot how to do that. I know Metamorphical's way does work cause that is what I use to do. It looks long, but it is really easy actually.
Just make sure to pay attention when you are reinstalling it. It should ask you where you want to install it, and you'll need to change it so that it installs in C:\Program Files and not your desktop. -
thanks! appreciate the help
