Okay, every time I run itunes it does this little set-up with loading bars and such as if its installing. not sure if thats the problem but theres a little pop up that says gathering information and stuff. The biggest problem is that when I got to shut down my laptop, it won't shut down. I need to manually hold the power button for 5 seconds. You are probably thinking whats the big deal it turns off right? Well every time it turns on I need to click start windows normally and Im also worried for my 1TB external HDD. Could this be doing any damage to it? If so what kind? and also, does anyone know any other programs that I can put like 6.5k songs on or so easily? I can wait it's more that I need it done.

I suppose you should try reinstalling your iTunes and see if that fixes the problem. Your external HD will be fine, unless it is a virus of some kind causing the problems. Alternative music players you could try are Windows Media Player or WinAMP.

actually iTunes is very laggy these days...
and it uses too much CPU for a music application.

although its interface is great but it is just not coded well for Windows Vista.

i also have errors.. the interface Renders a Black screen and when i minimize and maximize only then can i see the main panel.

I run iTunes with heavy lists and album side view, yet never encounter such event? I tried SongBird ( www.songbirdnest.com), foobar2000 but then come back to iTunes just because it's more user-friendly for me (subjective view) although yeah it's one of the resource-hog program :)

Me five. I triend winamp for some time, then went to foobar, even tried songbird[it dosen't work with lastfm] so at the end I went back to iTunes.

It's easier for me, and I like the interface, so eh.
