Torrent is just want any joker puts up there, so quality can vary from very good, to crap, to virus.

iTunes uses 128kbs for standard songs, and a slightly higher rate for the new DRM-Free songs.

I stopped buying physical copies three years ago. The less physical space my music takes up, the better.

The majority of tracks on iTunes are 128 Kb/s, and the new non-DRM iTunes Plus tracks are 256 Kb/s, costing $.30 more.

when i rip my CD, i riped it as WMA lossess. its usually 900 kb/s to 1000 KBs.

20+ MB per song. then burn it to another CD.

itunes only get 128? that sucks
    torrent is way better then.

yeah torrents are good for gettin an album ya dont know is any good before spendin cash on it. or for old albums that are hard to get. i once joined one of those mp3 downloading sites thinking they'd give me better choices and chances of getting those rare songs but it turned out to be just another p2p program like kazaa or napster modded for their use.

the advantage of online places like itunes is that u can buy the song you like and not a whole album for a lot more, so if u like only one song ya dont haveta spend on a whole CD for it. but at 128kbps thats just crap! that is seriously low quality, my absolute minimum is 192kbps for good music.

^ Most private music torrent sites have a 192kbs minimum. And such is the reason (besides price) why I'll never - ever - buy music from iTunes. If I'm going to download music, I'm going to do so at a bitrate of my choosing; not at a DRM-riddled 128kbs standard from iTMS.

geez i didnt know that it was so low. personally i can hear a sound difference between 128kbs and 192kbs, but the best in my opinion is vbr.
