I could see a need for a new sticky thread called "Simple Vista How To's for Dummies".

Although I like Vista, I'm getting a little frustrated. Some tasks I can't figure out, while others it seems like there are 4 different ways to do the exact same thing.

Anyway, here the issue I have with the start menu. For some reason the little round start button I had originally has been replaced by the more classic looking start menu, (with the word "Start" in the little box).

I've gone into the properties for the start menu (using right-click) and made sure I haven't selected Classic View, and I've rebooted a couple times. Can't seem to change it. Any clues? Using Vista Business.

It's not that the classic start menu bothers me. What bothers me is that I have no idea how it got changed.

Right-click on the Start Menu icon and choose Properties.

Change it to Classic and then change it back.

What did the trick is changing the theme as Jeff suggested. I should have tried that on my own, but it didn't make sense to me because I hadn't changed it (at least I thought).

It happened at some point when I was trying some different suggestions from this forum to speed up Vista, and I must have inadvertantly changed the theme from aero to standard in the process without knowing.

Just so you know Clyde you don't have to disable aero entirely to get faster speeds in vista. All you have to do is get rid of things such as transitions and it'll go faster.
