I have an older (not sure how old, got it from a friend) HP Pavillion 7940 desk top. I turned it on one day and it said no operating system found. I was puzzled by this so I had a friend come over and look at it. He said my hard drive was bad so I went and got another one the other day. The one that was originally in it was a seagate model ST340810A 40 GB. The one I got is a Maxtor D740X-6L 40 GB.

I got home, attatched the cables and proceeded to install my XP disk on it and this is what i get on a blue screen.

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time youve seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

The BIOS in this system is not fully ACPI compliant. Please contact your system vendor or visit http://www.hardware-update.com for an updated BIOS. If you are unable to obtain an updated BIOS or the latest BIOS supplied by your vendor is not ACPI compliant, you can turn off ACPI mode during text mode setup. To do this, simply press the F7 key when you are prompted to install storage drivers. The system will not notify you that the F7 key was pressed - it will silently disable the ACPI and allow you to continue your installation.

    Technical information:

    *** STOP: 0x000000A5 (0x00000002, 0x823AA890, 0xE10D3AB0, 0x823AAB88).

Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong or what I need to do in order to get this thing working? I really need that thing to be up and running so I can find a darn job.

ANY help would be appreciated and please keep in mind, I am not a computer minded person here but I can follow instructions quite well. Technical speak may be a tad difficult for me to understand. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!
