so i randomly got a <windows>dll error-(not exact verbatim) the other day while trying to boot up windows. it said the dll file was either missing or corrupt. after about 3 tries to re boot, it finally booted up normally so i ran advanced system care to fix registry files and such. this was a random and inconsistent error message and i haven't gotten since. it has been booting up normally since then but i just want to make sure that i have fixed it or atleast know what to do to permanently fix the problem. like i said it randomly occured so i don't know if i have fixed it or maybe it just has not re appeared yet.

can advanced system care typically fix windows dll errors?

Hardware (hard drive) corruption is mainly the cause. Time to back up your data and perform a clean install, on a new drive if possible; if not a godd reformat and chkdsk before reinstallation.

I personally don't think that advanced system care can fix typical dll errors, other that repairing them by copy fresh files over

    cheers ...

You can run chkdsk and see if it can block out some bad sectors, whilst preserving the integrity of the files. And you can run a repair afterward to keep your personal data.

i can run chksk and it doesn't report any errors. i tried to make a hitatchi DFT-(drive fitness test) but for some reason i can't successfully make the disk on a CD. is there any chkdsk tool that is more effective or one that can repair corruption without having to reinstall windows?

When you run Windows Repair, you are not reinstalling it. It just copy fresh system files over with your personal apps and data pretty intact. You might need Windows updates and reactivation, but that is pretty much it

There is no Windows Repair disk, you just put in your normal installation CD and choose the option of "Windows Repair" when the menu comes up.

You boot from the normal XP installation disk and, at the first screen, it will give you the option to do a repair of an existing installation (if it finds one ;)).

:) then follow the menu to install, the installation will (should) see that you already have Windows, and give you the option to Repair.

    cheers ...

. Change the BIOS to look at the optical drive first

    . Put in your CD

    . Start your comp

. Hit any key to start the boot from CD, at prompt

    cheers ...
