I just installed the Vista SP2 release client W/ my fresh install of Vista the other night. i've booted it a few times, hoping it would help cache startup and run info into the memory, but so far it's still very ineffecient compared to SP1. i'm consistantly using about 300-400 MB more RAM than before the SP2 install, and about 400-450 MB more page file than before. My processor effeciency seems to be down also. simply running an AVG scan maxes out my 1.73 Celeron, Much worse than before. i've eliminated unneeded Vista services, and slimmed down the startup menu.

now, i know this is still a Release Client, but it's fairly far along in it's developmental process, so i'd think it would'nt be a problem with the Service Pack. do i need to give Vista more time to load up the Cache, and "optimize" the Service Pack install, or has the latest SP done nothing but make Vista MORE resource hogging?

reinstall it, i noticed less ram usage and generally faster operating under sp2 rc

btw, the release candidate is the final version, there won't be any changes except for the fact that they'll remove the "evaluation copy" words at the bottom right of the screen

Agree, I have used it for "long" time and it is fine over here. Much better then SP1, especially boot time.

It's a shame that the rc is the final as it definitely messes with my machine when installed.

there may end up being changes if they find anything wrong... but most likely it is the final one

escrow is final code. it 99% will be the actual rtm release unless they find sdome bugs in it. but the coding has officially stopped with the escrow build

Just remember guys, that you will need to uninstall this when the actual release comes out EVEN if there are no changes. All RC versions even the Escrow one (as far as I can ascertain) have an expiration date.

escrow does not have a expiration date and as far as now it looks to be final. this is the same thing happened with sp1 rtm. escrow was the the same release number and all.

well, i installed it today, and it's running smoothly, but now my network adapter refuses to connect to any detected wireless network, claiming the signal isnt strong enough. anyone know where i can download a previous version of the driver, not a recent update version?
