Hi guys
I was in the process of doing a clean install of windows 7 through my usb drive. I was using the iso method and created a bootable usb through that. Its the legit iso i have from the other thread. Anyway i even removed the ei.cfg but i forgot it's supposed to give you a list of options of what to install. For some reason it didnt and installed Win 7 pro when i needed home premium x64. What should I do now???? My OEM Asus key doesn't work obviously so I need to somehow remove Win 7 pro and install home premium

You will have to reinstall, as a downgrade is not possible.

The "patch" only hides the ei.cfg when you burn the image to DVD.
If you use the Bootable Thumbdrive installer you STILL have to find and delete ei.cfg. -
Downgrade is possible, not officially supported. There is a big risk of failure and losing data and probably even launching a small revolution in a foreign country...
Anyways, instructions are here:
Hack to In-Place “Downgrade” from Windows 7 Ultimate or Professional to Less Premium Editions My Digital Life
I haven't tried and I do not dare to try either

All Windows 7 Disks are the same if I am not mistaken only the Key you input tells the computer what version to install.
So not sure if you have a different scenario since you built your own windows install via download, but I think its still key based.
If my memory serves me correct, the OEM key on a laptop does not let you install via disk anyways, you have to extract your key from your prior install or call MS and give them the OEM key and they can give you a install key.
If you have Pro installed already though, I do not think putting in a lower key will "downgrade" so you have to install again, or purchase a pro windows key. -
I got it, I just re installed using a virtual drive (Daemon tools). The OEM key registered, but to activate I had to go through this phone process. It wasn't so bad.

Disc without Ei.cfg asks what version to install if you don't give the key.
Disc with Ei.cfg installs one version defined in that file. If you enter key from wrong version you should see an error message.
I'm pretty sure (but not certain) that customized Ei.cfg would for example allow disc to install Home Premium or Ultimate but not Pro.
No. You are mixing two things together. Factory installed key is volume license, same key in every machine. That can be extracted and used with properly configured install disc but it is not meant for end-users.
OEM key in the bottom is regular OEM, it can be used with any Retail or OEM disc and it requires internet activation when first time used. -
I guess a downgrade is a waste of time. I would backup my files and just install a fresh (and appropriate) Windows version.

Disk install is possible with an OEM key, but you have to activate via phone.
