I am installing win 7 on another computer from a USB HDD. It works just fine on my Dell but when I try it on my Asus I have no luck starting the installation program. I have no clue.
The HDD shows up as a selectable boot device but it goes no further than that message.
Also my XP installation cd works for a bit and get to the BSOD.
Right now I have Vista so I have no clue.
I also tried with a 4GB USB pen drive and it says "disk error".
    any help guys?

The Asus may simply not support booting from a usb device, despite it showing up as a boot device option in the Bios. I had this happen with my friends Asus when I tried to install W7 from a usb flash drive. As for the 4GB drive, it maybe not be in the correct format. It needs to be NTFS.

Don't remember the process exactly, but in the bios on the Asus, there is another sub-menu to select to have the USB drive boot. Ran into the same issue on my daughter's netbook. Select the USB device, then again the sub-menu and you'll get it working.

thanks guys. I have to try that. I solved the problem by burning the image to a DVD/RW. What a pain though. I don't recall any sub menu for the usb but I will check that.
