I'm planing to buy a new acer 5820TG laptop. I plan to install a new os on it (win 7 - yes it will also come with win 7 but there's a language problem). Now, I plan to format the hard drive - can I do that? as in will I run into any problems later on? When I install the new OS, I'll need to reinstall all the drivers, but will all the buttons such as turn the graphics card off etc work?

    Will this void the warranty?

As long as you have all the drivers downloaded and prepared, you shouldn't lose functionality with a clean install of the OS. Check in the Acer subforum and see what issues people are having with clean installs and drivers, so you can pre-empt them.

No, a clean install will not void the warranty.

    thanks
I'll also make a backup in case I mess things up

EDIT: is it possible to some how check exactly what drivers I need on the laptop so that I know I have everything?

Windows 7 is good at finding its own drivers. What I did was just install 7 from a disc image, type my product key, say yes to "Connect to Internet during installation?" and it found my wireless driver. Then, I ran Windows Update until all updates were installed, reboot, and it worked perfectly.

If something stops working, THEN go to Acer's site and download the drivers.

You can change the language in Windows without having to clean install.

    Change the display language

Edit: Yeah, it looks like you can only do it with Ultimate and Enterprise. Sorry, don't mind me...moving along.
