    Hello everyone,
i'm new with this laptop so please bear with me.i'm using my old dying windows 98 to type this.i purchased an HP laptop and it was delivered yesterday.I've tried and tried to install the microsoft works suite 2006 that came with the laptop.when i am prompted i enter the 25 character product key from the disc case, and continually get a "you have not entered a valid product key"message.I have entered the numbers & letters exactly as they appear on the case.I have done this repeatedly to no avail.my computer is running windows xp.I have contacted hewlett-packard and they tell me basically it's not their problem, and that i have to contact microsoft.i have not been successful in contacting microsoft as of this writing.Have any of you encountered this problem with works suite 2006?Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm a bit confused, but bare with me ;)

The MS Works was not preinstalled with the machine, was it? The key shouldn't say that if you correctly put in the CD-Key, unless you are reading the wrong key.

As well, the part about the old dying Win98 is throwing me off, are you using that on the HP?

Thanks to all of you for the help.I am very sorry that I confused you.I was merely using my old 'puter to type,I put the works disc in the laptop and got the invalid key message. The ms works was not pre-installed.The link chemistry sent appears to be what I need.I'll try it.Thanks again,I'll keep you posted.
