Heya all Im thinking of getting windows server 2003, and what i wanted to know is, is it possible to install windows servers on a normal pc e.g. ones running windows xp?

Does it have any issues running on laptops (cus ive got an old old xp laptop - so just wondering if i could install it on there)?

You might have issues with drivers installing properly on Windows Server 2003. Most laptop manufacturers don't put out drivers for their hardware for server OSes. You can always install Windows Server 2003 as a virtual machine using VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC but if you have an older model laptop, performance will take a hit

I don't think you will have any issues..at my job there's a regular Dell OptiPlex computer with Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on there...works fine!

    Now for laptops I don't know...but as I said I don't think you'll have any issues...

Regular desktop is possible, a few people I know run Server 2003 with their regular desktop, you shouldn't have problems finding the drivers. As for laptop, I'm not 100% sure. Try to look for the drivers first, I believe some of them are the same as the XP x64 drivers, cause the other day I was looking for some software and drivers for my cousin's XP x64, the packages were the same as the 2003 server. For example, when I downloaded Acrobat Reader from Adobe, their site automatically detected the OS and it showed Server 2003 for my cousin's PC, but it was XP x64 in it. And if you choose the OS manually, there isn't XP x64 as choice.

The biggest problem you'll run into is finding compatible drivers. I just run Server 2003 in a VM box. Screw finding compatible drivers. Use the "bridge network connection" option and run it like another machine.
