im talking about when u turn on the computer, when windows boots and that sound plays. can i disable that?
-
Yes you can.
Go to Control Panel --> Sounds & Audio Devices--> Sounds tab-->under "Program Events" select "Start Windows". Then under "Sounds", scroll up and select none.

Heck, I even disable the System Beep. My computer is completely silent unless I trigger a sound or movie file in its' own application.
-
I turn off most sounds as I find them annoying.
-
Another benefit of turning off the system sounds is that you may notice a slight decrease in boot times. But, it depends on your system.

I used to hate all the "extras" that Windows provided, but now that I have a laptop that can handle all the goodies and a desktop that can handle all the goodies, I just leave 'em all on
Kinda nice.

I only have alert type sounds on. I know when I turned my computer on, why would I want a sound to confirm it, esp. the one they pick.
