so ive gone back to xp but wonna know is does xp even do dual core cpu's i have amd duol cores and things run great, but i would have thought things would have ran supurbly with 2gbs of ram,but things are abit slow when it comes to watchn 720p hd movies,my cpu usage goes way up and doubles to wot it was in vista. and when i go into start menu then go threw programs that takes half a second or even a second to open.

i just thought i could install xp with all the drivers workn, which they are all workn and everything would run smooth, guess i was wrong. is there any guide to make a dual core machine run better? tweaks etc. if xp wont play my hd content like vista then looks like ill have to go back to vista. maybe its my graphics drivers i need to find the newest ones?

Wrt to XP's dual core capabilities, open Task Manager and check the number of graphs. Task Manager will plot separate graphs for each core.

The Turion X2 has a dual-core optimization for XP, check AMD's website for anything for your CPU.

Dual core CPUs should work pretty much the same in XP as in Vista.

HD videos are definitely heavy on the CPU with IGP, if you have a discrete GPU, it would help.

If Vista was working fine with the HD videos, do you remember which driver version you were using? If yes, you should try to use the same version in XP then. And no, the latest driver doesn't always mean better video playback. Some drivers are better for gaming and some are better for video playback. For example, I get smoother video with 169.28 than 174.74, but 174.74 scored higher in 3D benchmarks.

if you are not running SP3 either download it or search for go to microsoft and search for AMD DUAL CORE CPU PATCH FOR XP

there is a patch that makes AMDs run better... but without SP3 you have to you impliment the patch yourself...
