hey guys, I have a problem with my computer, and as said in the title, my laptop freezes and I have to push the button to shut it down. (sony sz680)
so this is how it goes. i am surfing the web, or anything for that matter, and the laptop will just freeze. the screen is still there, but nothing responds, even if i press ctrl +alt + del to get to the task manager. also, when this happens the light of the hard disk is no longer blinking (turned off), i think it stopped spinning. once i do a force shutdown everything will be fine again.
also, this does not happen to me only, i have a friend who has an HP laptop and the same thing happens, it just froze in front of him while he was doing some work, the hd light stopped blinking and had to force shutdown. and a friend who also owns an older model of the sz with xp, upgraded to vista recently, and it happens to him too, so this a bug with vista..and its driving me nuts.
do you guys know any solutions ? does it happen to you guys?
thanks in advance.

there can be:
1] VISTA problem [ most likely]
2] RAM problem. While booting, go to the BIOS and do a RAM test.
3] Hard drive problem. It happened to me just a week ago.. -
have the web sites contained flash? those things always cause computer frozen
-
ive used vista for a very long time, and it has never froze on me once.

nirvana, its not flash because it happened to my friends who were doing their work with no internet, and it happened right in front of me. I guess I will do tests. thanks for the feedback everyone

Check to see if _Sony has any updates for drivers, it sounds like something with high interrupt priority, like a driver, is putting the system into an infinite loop, or else you're getting a deadlock between two competing drivers. Check the performance logs to see if anything shows up about the time the system freezes.
