    kmplayer?
vlc sucks because it looks horrible and I don't know how to make it use external codecs.

E.g. kmplayer with coreavc lets me play 1080P videos on my netbook while vlc doesn't.

For real video files, I use the real alternative codec + Media Player classic.

It's possible for VLC to use external codec (real alternative or ffmpeg (for real audio)) to play real player file.

Um.. the same place where the above 2 users got it from. It's called Real alternative. Basically, all you have to do is to install the codec and set VLC to use that codec for decoding real media file.

Or you can just get kmplayer. It has it integrated into the player's internal codec i think. The interface looks much "cooler" than VLC. I can't stand the cone shaped icon. LOL

Just switch to kmplayer or something and stop wasting your time. Information on how to set external codecs for VLC is limited, and that's why i switched to something else.

Even windows media player is better than VLC and easier to configure.

I had a horrible experience with VLC. I use K-Lite mega codec pack which uses Media Player Classic, its a pretty lightweight player.

Another KM Player user here. No point wasting time with codecs, KM will do it all.

External Codecs are sometimes better though. coreavc is a prime example.

    I'm stubborn.

Found the key .dll file to allow vlc to play real media. it is drv43260.dll :) just add to plugin folder.

    cheers
