hey. i have a question. i cant seem to lock my computer anymore like the windows flag+L. now it keeps doing the switch user screen. which dells software controls this?

mine still works, but I have XP Pro and 1 account. Since it is a windows feature, I doubt any dell software would be enabling it.

This should fix your problem:
Start > Run > services.msc > find the service labeled "Fast User Switching Compatibility" > right-click it and hit "Properties" > set "Startup type" to Automatic, and under "Service Status", hit "Start". > Hit "Apply", then exit. No need to restart the system.
Let me know if that fixes the issue. -
edit:
i got the problem fixedthx for the suggestions people.

what did u do to fix it?? -
hi azntiger1000
the reason you can't lock your XP same as trying to use CAD (control + ALT +Delete) is because your in the wonderful Microsoft home networking mode, hence being able to use fast user switching, to put your laptop in lock either the following
1) enable screensaver, and tick password on resume then lower the timeout to minimum.
2) to put XP back into the corporate network mode,
Open User Accounts in Control Panel.
Click the Advanced tab.
In Secure logon, select the Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete check box.
this will also prompt you to press CAD to start windows, but if you've not set a password don't worry just leave the field blank but it does require you to remember what accounts you have, and you can't fast switch anymore, you can always go back if you don't like it.
hope that helps

i don't think that's what the original poster was talking about. he was saying that Windows Key + L no longer locks -
i just went to control panel - user accounts - and clicked on "change the way users logon and logoff options" and then there are two check boxes. i just unchecked the one that says use faster user switching and that did it. i only have one account on this computer either way so i dont need to use it for quick logoff.

Hi, once corp. network mode is enabled then Window logo +L works again, along with a few more secuity type settings which MS simplified for home user's other area's affected by the Home network mode is it reduces file and disk security as well.
It also makes sense if user A locks their computer but user B or C could then log on, we'll that defeats the lock, as you can view their open temp files and access their data -

Hi that's interstign as on both my corp. version and original XP (supplied from MS after beta testing) loses that ability, and when i wass chating to one of their fast response guys re: a server issue we had, he mentioned they removed that functionality.
Is the version you using home or Pro and what SP level is it please, i'm curious now (also region?)
