You can try a freeware program called Super. One of my favorite programs. It does more than joining video files.

i am going to say no to super as it screws up the file. just tested the burned result and the audio was so far sped up that it was a silent movie ten minutes in. the video was just fine though.

er ableton live? works with AVI...
and hey, your all set if you need any pitch independent time stretching. -
Avi DeMux is very capable and does direct stream copying so it doesn't change anything (unless you're trying to join two different formats).

what OS you using?
xp/win 7 etc
have you tried microsofts movie maker -
i am using win7. i had completely forgot about movie maker. i might give that a try later.

That's weird. I guess you have to tweak it to work correctly. I've combined several AVI files perfectly fine with audio in sync.

virtualdub. its portable and completely free and I have joined several clips with ease using it.

The problem with most video "joiner" apps is that they want to re-encode the video. I have had luck with "Easy Video Joiner" but it is an ancient app and only does limited formats, but without any encoding needed. It is a "splicer" app.

It depends entirely on the source. If you don't want to re-encode, the resolution, sound tracks and framerates need to be completely identical in each file. Otherwise you have to transcode.
That said, I've used ffmpeg and mencoder on Linux to join multiple movies. The LoTR DVDs are dual-sided, and I wanted them in a single file
But because I encoded them from beginning to end, I had control over whether or not they matched.

Yes, it does require identical sources, of course. But it also depends on the application as well. For example Windows Movie Maker want to re-encode everything you throw at it. And when i was searching for an app to do this, I found few that didn't force you to re-encode even with identical source types.

As I said a couple of posts ago, AVI DeMux doesn't re-encode if they are identical. If they aren't they same it is also a great program to re-encode one of them to match.
