i just had a couple questions. first regarding the post to the file that ScuderiaConchiglia posted for the boot order defrag. should this replace a regular defrag on vista x64? also what tweaks would you recommend for a computer used for school, internet, and programming/cad/games? i currently have a clevo m570tu with a q9100.

No the boot file defrag file I posted does NOT replace the regular defrag. It is a specialized defrag that only affects the boot files and their sequencing. It does NOTHING else to the other files at all.

As far as other tweaks are concerned, I have no specific recommendations other than to suggest the eliminating the pagefile is NOT a good idea. It provides an imperceptible improvement and provides a possibility of data loss.

Since the first question in this post is in reference to a post in that thread, I think it is safe to say the OP already knows about the thread. :)

Gary, Thank you so much for pointing this out to me in a separate post. However; the tip the OP referenced was a part of a very large tweak thread and there is no guarantee the OP saw the other tweaks.

I suggest no tweaking unless there is a showstopping issue with your system. Vista and beyond adapt to your usage patterns and really require nothing else than your usual day-to-day activities.

Just go through the list and see what you don't want to be running at startup. If you don't know what a program is, then you can google the filename and see what it is and decide from there.
