From what I've read mcafee offers a far better product for virus protection than say norton (which I've used for the last four years) it is said to be the best which is why I would like to buy it. However I have also heard they charge outrageous amounts for tech support via phone-my question is would i need this to remove viruses? I will be using this on two pcs one virus free and one has a few in need of removal I would like to avoid speaking with and thus racking up a huge bill with mcafee but would like to use their software. Help!

I'll go first. Why pay for McAfee when there are "better" free software packages available?

Like? I've used AVG antivirus for some time on some machines (ones I don't care about as much as others) and all of them have viruses and such junk. According to pcworld the freebies are junk. Mcafee is the best.

I concur with Seb. I've used AVG for years, never had a virus. But I think viruses are more about end users anyway. If you don't like them though, try one of those others. You can also get the CA package for free for a year.
