MPC HC for movies/tv shows as I can set it to always be on top and only have the image showing.
Foobar for music. -
Winamp for music, KMPlayer for videos.
-
WMP11 /w CCCP & CoreAVC.
Excellent music library functionality (JP character support is crucial) easy to use, and plays any video file I throw at it. -
Winamp coz WMP12 just dun wan to work for me.

Usually I use WMP 10, on XP. With my fairly small music collection, it does everything I want. I've tried Winamp and MediaMonkey but just didn't particularly like them. The one alternative that I do rather like is WMP 12 in Windows 7, although I miss the WMP taskbar toolbar. I also just realized that the reason I can't seem to find the beta for XP is that it's not out yet - hope they do eventually release it though.
For movies, either Media Player Classic (XP) or WMP 12 (Win7). XP doesn't come with a DVD decoder, so that limits the options somewhat.
CCCP codec for all WMP, I should mention. It would be really nice if Microsoft started including Ogg Vorbis support with WMP - but it's easy enough to fix.
Favorite is WMP 9, though - it's more stable than WMP 10. But the greatness of DRM means WMP 10 tends to play more of my files than WMP 9. -
WMP 11 with .Vista Codec Pack for audio library and most of the videos.
VLC for the rest + 16:10 playback -

on xp, i loved winamp for years. i now get more and more used to itunes. there's an ipod in my house (not mine, it's the one from my girlfriend), and several machines.
now that itunes get drm-free (i only have some tracks left which still wait for the update), the shop gets really nice and the automanaging of itunes is sweet. -

WMP 11 and WinAmp

MPC Home Cinema. Plays literally every video for me. The x64 version responds very fast.
Music? Itunes. -

oh, right, for movies, eighter media palyer or MPC Home Cinema. thanks to the codec pack they both play all movies. i personally prefer the interface of MPC (and certain advanced feature like zooming and stretching a movie to exactly fit on screen, or if it's aspect was wrong).

Music: Zune, although I've been meaning to try Songbird for a while...
Video: WMP (mainly just DVDs) -
I love REAL PLAYER! You can put your music and videos into Play Lists to watch or listen to any mood or assortment you wish. Also has a Favorites list, and tons of configurable options.
I also like an application called MP3 Rocket which is free, or MP3Rocket Pro which is about $15 -- for music, videos, tv, etc. With the "sharing" concept, you can often find and download obscure items you might not be able to find anywhere else -- like a lot of stuff that's out of print now, but still great! -
I actually like Windows Media Player (for all the CDs owned by my mother that are on an external HDD...)
But for my music colection "on the go" Sonic Stage (from CDs too)
Basically - if you're happy with what you use, stick with it.
In the end, it depends a lot waht you want to do.
I never use playlists - I once did on WMP (for classical music) else, I just listen to one song generally until I change it... -

Winamp, Foobar are simply rubbish. Even with ASIO. The only time I use Winamp or Foobar with ASIO is when I insert my whole 20000 song playlist and I need a quick jump option. -
Foobar2000 + VLC.
-
WMP 11 here.
WMP 12 once Win7 gets here. -
Songbird + VLC for me. I'm a sucker for the open source...
-
Videos: VLC and/or Media Player Classic
Music: Winamp (Lite) -
Music WMP 11
Video Gom Player+ VLC +K Lite mega Codec Pack -
VLC for video (plays almost any format you throw at it). Winamp for Audio.
-
WMP for music
WMPC for movies -
MPCHC + CCCP for my movies, anime.
Winamp for my music. I got sick of iTunes' pathetic playback. Plus, my good ol' iPod's dead. -
Winamp (Lite), plus a FLAC and APE plugin. I'm in pig heaven.
-
I use Windows Media Player or iTunes.
Also, www.pandora.com. -
Windows media player 10 for music, and VLC for videos and DVD's. I've never encountered a file type so exotic it couldn't be played on VLC, and WMP-10 is just so simple.

Anyone know if I can get Foobar to automatically find names when inserting an audio cd? At the moment I have to highlight all the songs, right click, tagging then find names. Which isn't a problem for me but my mum can't remember how to do it.
Or perhaps another music player that already does this, but I like foorbar because it uses such a small amount of memory (7.5mb) and with a system with only 512mb I don't really want to use WMP or Winamp as they use tons of precious memory.
media player, what your fav.
