I've always hated all the arbitrary and weird auto-formatting crap that word has always done, but i've just now encountered one that is really bizarre. As I'm trying to type any word with an apostrophe, it adds a space. ie: "Didn't" gets swapped to "Didn' t".

Um...doubleyou tee eff, mate? I've copied and pasted the text into a new document to try to get rid of the formatting, but it's still doing this. What obscure, hidden in the deep dark depths of the menus, option is this, and how do i tell word to leave this weird **** alone?

Never had that happen to me. To change auto format settings: Format -> AutoFormat -> Options

You can try clicking the ribbon logo in the top left, Word Options, Proofing (on the left-hand toolbar), and then Autocorrect options.

In the options tab in word, check these... (or uncheck them as needed)

I think you can check the proofing options too...

    # Click AutoCorrect Options.
    # Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab.

Select or clear the check boxes for the options that you want to enable or disable.

I entered the auto-formatting menu, but couldn't find anything that pertained to apostrophe changes.

I understand...what I'm saying is there is no option that I saw which would make a difference with this particular situation. I've never seen it happen before this either.
