hey guys i have a few questions here. my old ipod was starting to crap out on me so i copied all my music to my desktop so it wouldnt be missing when my ipod finally dies. my ipod died and i sent it into circuit city and got a $260 gift card (so awesome) which i sold and got an iphone 2g. im preparing to load ~13 gigs of music onto it and i open up the folder and its empty, but im pretty sure my music isnt gone

it disappeared after my computer guy did a huge repair on my computer, i guess a virus disabled all my antivirus software + my firewall + changed some system files around. how can i get my music back? is it even possible? also, i'm considering switching to linux. my computer guy put mandriva onto a disc and gave it to me. if i put that into my laptop, what can i expect to happen? is it possible to just wipe out all my old files because besides the music, i dont really have anything that i want to keep from XP, i can just redownload most of it after the OS installation.

thanks in advance guys, I really appreciate the help

FML im an idiot haha. i guess the "view hidden files and folders" option was unchecked at some point by the repair guy. I've always assumed that it was enabled

weird... i found all my music. Before it disappeared, my music was in sub-folders 00-49 within the music folder. After checking the "show hidden files and folders" box all my music showed up in the usual 00-49 subfolders. i moved all the music into itunes one folder at a time and when it's in itunes it says that it's only 8 gigs? if i moved the entire contents of the music folder (~16 gigs) into itunes, wouldn't it show up as ~16 gigs of music in itunes?

One would think so....but I gave up on trying to figure out anything to do with Ipods and Itunes a long time ago...most of the time I'm just happy when Itunes works....

Off topic kind of.. why do people cover their computer user name?

It reminds me about when I was a cashier at Hone Depot once and some guy was paying with a debit card and he was covering the pad as he entered his pin. I laughed and said if I don't have your card, your pin won't do me any good.

funny about that... My computer user name is Namaiki anyways... oops

It could well be, that dorado29 doesn't want to reveal his or her 'real' name.
