more of a nervous question

ok I am about to go full plunge with windows 7. I am at a point of such disgust with vista( my machine is not godly its great) I have such horrid start-up times and shut downs time and so on.

I have acouple different questions from what I seen here before. Ok I'm a tad of clean freak about my hard-drive. So my OS is on one partition( along with other non-fun programs like virus software and ofice) and made another for everything fun(steam, games, torrent DLers, music and movies.)

My question is when I install 7 on my main partition what will become of my other partition will I be able just to use my other programs?

Also I will back up my current config. So if my windows 7 upgrade is epic fail for me I can come back.

mr. moo your the man, SInce I am not going to touch the recovery partition I assume I'll be able to alien respawn my orginal config without vista being installed on my system?

 

Pretty sure the Windows 7 bootloader overwrites the bootloader required for Alien Respawn Effectively breaking it

 

is that true with dual booting?

 

yea

but the respawn is still there you need to flag it as a boot devce then it will work

 

just so you know if you didnt already is that not many of ur programmes installed on ur seperate partition will run on windows 7 without a re-install as various install files that are put into windows such as reg entries etc will be missing

 

Alittle Update here

Ok with a fresh install of win7 my primamry partition ( in earlier posts I indicated that all my games are on a second partition) ok so I went into my other partition to see if steam would still work and games.

Steam updated itself to the new O/S and I actually got to play my games without a reinstall. I don't know about retail versions of games( I haven't tried). When I have time I will check as I have some programs to re-install and give 3d Vantage mark a go around

I'll update this agian when I go into other games that are on there I tried counter strike source but if that works I hope my other valve games are going to work
