    would it hurt anything if i go in to msconfig and turn off everything in startup?

    Some things may not fully work (like the touchpad) and other things (antivirus) you want running at startup. But generally, no, nothing terrible can happen if you disable everything from running at startup, especially since you can just re-enable it again.

    that kool thought it might free up some ram as far as norton i think it slows a system down to much thats one reason why i havent activated it on this one yet

    If it's Norton 2009 or 2010, you'll be fine. It's very light.
