It havent been MSN Messenger for years, its called Windows Live messenger now, that may make it easier for you to search for solutions on the internet.. Really it can be a lot of things, i just googled around myself and some said disabling hardware acceleration helped but to me, that seems retarded :\.

Do you use Win7 on a mac?

yeah i have seen lots of results. one of the most feasible one being reinstall internet explorer, which i'm trying to do. i use w7 on my mac and i have never had this problem before. i really dont want to format my laptop

IE cant be reinstalled in Win7, only turned on/off, which shouldnt help.

I remember having freeze issues in WLM once... I think it was fixed by making sure flash player was installed in IE, but thats a while ago and i dunno if that means anything anymore.

Try and disable hardware acceleration, like suggested by some, and see if it helps.

reinstall and maybe reconfigure flash player. and after uninstalling wlm and flash, run ccleaner to clean up stuff that might still create issues.

This is just a theory but what firewall are you using, the built in windows firewall or a third party one? I have seen cases where firewalls blocked the port WLM uses and it causes the program to freeze and lock up until the port is added to the firewall allow list.

Also based on my searching on this topic: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q317843 seems to offer a fix for the freezing problem for most people, however to apply that fix you need to edit the registry, so proceed with caution.

Is it an endless freeze or does it crash?

Just thought I'd remind you that you can use other apps to use MSN/Live messenger.
