last night it was at a stable 55 gb then today I just noticed it was down to 35 gb HD space left... where did it go??

I did a system restore to a piont 3 days ago which went through but the HD space is still the same at 35 gb left.

Clear your system restore points (open up System Restore > System Protection > uncheck C:, hit apply, confirm dialogue, then recheck box and click ok. Also, you may wish to manually recreate a restore point in the same window.

By doing this, you will erase all the system restore points that have accumulated on your system (possibly taking up 10s of GBs, while keeping system restore on and available for future restores.

to be honest , system restore piont has used up the 15% space already and it worried me at first but has became stable now to where its not taking up anymore HD space, plus it woudnt just drop 20 gb overnight.

a backup from rescue and recovery could be possible....how can I confirm this?? and what was the piont of having this back up in my HD??

It's vista's shadow storage, tweak that down to 3gb and you will be fine.

Yes, i can confirm this. I usually loose 10-20GB of space with each shadow copy.
